A couple months ago, my good friend Nicole gave me the most delicious body scrub that became such a nice part of my morning routine. The invigorating scents of lemongrass, eucalyptus, and peppermint were the perfect way to to awaken and ease myself into the day. After I blew through the scrub, I was about to head over to Whole Foods to buy more, when I considered trying to recreate something similar with supplies that I already had at home! It literally took me less than 5 minutes to make...give it a try :)
Ingredients:
- 1 cup Himalayan sea salt
- 1/4 cup sweet almond oil
- 30-40 drops of your favorite essential oils
Mix all ingredients in a bowl and put final product into a mason jar or a recycled tub/jar. This is not a daily scrub, as it is an intense exfoliant. For best results, scrub before you even turn the water on, then rinse and shower like you normally do.
A few notes on substitutions: This is meant to be a quick and easy scrub made from ingredients you already have at home, so feel free to substitute as needed! You can sub regular sea salt or sugar for the Himalayan sea salt. You can also sub fractionated coconut oil, avocado oil, grapeseed oil, sesame oil, or jojoba oil for the sweet almond oil I used. If you use regular coconut oil, just expect the scrub to turn out a bit more solid in texture. For essential oils, I used eucalyptus, peppermint, and lemongrass since I wanted something to wake me up in the morning. But if you normally shower at night, I would recommend lavender, vetiver, pine, ylang ylang, rose, or jasmine instead.
Let me know how it goes!
